From "Tidewaters of Virginia" Daniel DeJarnatt was the son of Mary an d Jean Dejarnatt and was born in Abingdon Parish. He was baptized on F ebruary 2, 1713. Daniel married Martha Ford. This information is suppl ied from the will of Martha DeJarnatt, in which she appointed her brot her, Christopher Ford, one of her executors.
Daniel and Martha settled in Amelia County, VA, in that part that wast o become Prince Edward County. It is not known how early they were liv ing in Amelia County; Prince Edward County was formed from Amelia Coun ty in 1754, evidently just before Daniel died. Daniel and Martha hadei ght children who lived to adulthood, as evidenced by his will. He name d: Mary, Betty, Daniel, Mumford, John, Christopher, Lidia, and Martha Dejarnatt.
At the time of Daniel's death, he and Martha were living in Nottaway P arish, Prince Edward County. He had amassed well over 780 acres of lan d, for he specified land amounting to this in his will, and bequeathe d other parcels of land, without indicating the amount. Daniel made hi s will on September 11, 1754, and his estate was appraised in Decembe r of 1755. He left Martha a child's portion of moveables (personal pro perty), this would have been less than her one-third, which was the wi dow's dower. He left her the privilege (choice) of houses and 100 acre s of land with the plantation.
Elias and Daniel DeJarnette of a Hugenot family had settled in Glouces ter Co., moved to Snails Creek area. They had probably been attractedt o the section because thier sister Eleanor had moved there with her hu sband, Jacob McGehee.
Election of Vestryman for both Raleigh freeholders and the respectivep arishes voting in the elections. In Nottaway Parish, Charles Anderson , DANIEL DeJARNET, William Baldwin, Abraham Cocke, Henry Nash, JosephM orton were elected; they took oath of vestrymen May 19, 1749 in Ameli a County, VA.
Daniel married Martha Ford in Prince Edward County, VA. (Martha Ford was born in 1722 and died in Mar 1782 in Prince Edward Co., Virginia.)
