Mary Hampton

  General Notes:

Mary Hampton Dejarnatt died prior to 1801, when her father, John Hampt on made his will. From the wording of his will there can be little dou bt of this. He left one sixth of his estate to the children of each o f his children. He mentioned only two daughters in the present tense.M ary's nephew, William Gibson, later testified that his grandfather ha d only two of his children living, when he made his will. From all th e letters and depositions that survived, one concludes that these twow ere his daughters, Sarah Gibson and Jane Ball. From the same will, it is concluded that only three of Mary's children may have been of age a t the time of her death. She left Daniel, Elliott, and Ann, at least, still under the age of 21.

Mary married Joseph DeJarnette Jr., son of Joseph DeJarnette and Mary Pemberton, about 1775 in Caroline Co., VA. (Joseph DeJarnette Jr. was born on Oct 9, 1747 in Spring Grove, Caroline Co., VA and died on Jul 31, 1824 in Caroline Co., VA.)
