John Dejarnatt married Frances Favor before 1800. Not many of the earl y marriage bonds of Caroline County have survived, and it seemed at on e time that the identify of his wife would be forever a mystery. Noneo f the family researchers offered a clue as to whom he married or when . A letter from John's cousin Francis Gibson Abbott to her parents inC larksville, TN, dated May 25, 1801 provided the illusive information. Frances Abbott was John's first cousin on his Hampton side. Mary Hampt on Dejarnatt was the sister of Frances' mother Sarah.
John was the eldest son of Joseph and Mary Hampton Dejarnatt. He was p robably born at Spring Grove in Caroline County about 1777. He was ofa ge and married by the time his grandfather, John Hampton made his wil l in 1801. John was certainly named for his grandfather Hampton. He al so bore the name of his great grandfather John Dejarnatt.
