Dunbar, age 37, carpenter, Alice (Gra ss) Dunbar, age 36, female, Matron, Henry Alexander, 14, Susan A., 13 , William., 19, Cynthia A., 8, Charles N., 5, John R., 4, Margaret A. , 1. William Sewell Dunbar lived in Monroe Co., Va for a time, and then mov ed to Raleigh Co., settling first at Shady Spring, in 1854. He moved t o Clear Fork of Coal Creek about 1860. He was a carpenter, taught scho ol, and practiced medicine. William was a Captain in the 7th West VA C alvary, after the war was over, he was invited to the White House, hea ttended. Could the female age 15/20 be another daughter? This could be Sarah E . Dunbar, b. Abt 1822 from William's first marriage to Sarah Bridgelan d. Found Sarah E. Dunbar married to a Jacob Mann in Monroe County, VA1 842. On the marriage record it stated that her father was William Dunb ar. She died at Flat Top, W.VA.
1850 census Monroe County, VA: William S. Dunbar 27, Carpenter Value of real estate $500.00. Alice, 2 5, Henry A., 4, Susan A., 2 James W., 4 months, and Susan 17. * (Thism ust be his sister Susan).* The James W., could have been a child that died in infancy.
According to accounts from realtives in W.VA, they state that his Will iam S., full name was William Sewell Spencer Dunbar. He signed his nam e on certain documents as William Sewell, but on the 7th W.VA Calvarye nlistment form, he signed it William Spencer Dunbar.

Dunbar, so on thi s 15th day of November 1897, make this the following will my true will . 1st: I want my just debts paid, which is as near as I can recollect . The balance on account and a balance on a note I gave T.J. McGinnisa nd maybe some balance on a note I gave Jacob Lively and an account Iow e Amos Williams of near twelve dollars. P.S. since the above was writt en I have payed my twelve dollars on earnest, and an account of four d ollars I owe Mr. Gibbs. balance on bed steads, also I have payed Mr. G ibbs his four dollars. The State has a note against me which is all pa yed except the five, and I have receipts for it. There may be some oth er little debts that I don't recollect. 2nd: I will my wife Alice six acres of land including the house and speing, to be laid off just as s he wants it. I appoint my son, William S. a nd my daughter Luemma J. to settle up all my business. I have a great many accounts and notes that you may expect some trouble about this. S ettle them as best as you can, settle it even if it is at a sacrifice . Part of my land is in an unsettled state. Make the best of it youcan , if necessary relinquish it. Get a lawyer to help in the land matter . Wife is also in addition to what has been willed to her, has fullsup port from the grain and meat and other things that has been raised. M y wife and children may if they choose to agree to make the division o f both land and legal provisions of law, but must be done according t o the manner set forth in the body of the above will. His father William Dunbar, was a carpenter, and was a soldier in the War of 1812. When William S. was ten ot twelve years old, the f ather moved to Giles Co., VA, and some two yrs later they settled in M onroe Co., VA, where they remained for 32 yrs.
