William or Joseph Dunbar

Joseph Dunbar was probably b. ca 1745 possibly in PA/MD or VA. He die d late 1700's as his widow, Mary re-married Issac Dawson in 1799 in Mo nroe County. This is where we are stuck. Could he be Ephraim Joseph Du nbar?
Found on 1799 Head of Households a Joseph Dunbar in Monroe Co., VA. On ly mention of a Joseph in that area.
3rd great grandfather John Wesley always stated his grandfather was Jo seph, although he was not alive when Wesley was born. Why would he sta te this? Also said that his father William had a brother Ephraim, andt hey used to play music together and write poetry.

Annie had found on 1792 Tax rolls a Joseph Dunbar in Monroe Co., VA. O nly mention of a Joseph in that area.

William married Mary Ross. (Mary Ross died in Monroe Co., Virginia.)
