General Notes:
He owned a plantation in Brunswick Parish, King George Co., until 1733 , at which time he was deeded 150 acres on the lower side of Dogue Cre ek, Turo Parish, Prince William Co., by George and Ann Mason "for then atural lives of Joseph Cash, Susannah, his wife, and Ann, their daught er." This part of Prince William County became part of Fairfax Count y in 1742, and its present location is directly along side of old US H ighway 1 (Post Road) south of Alexandria near a village then called Oc coquan. Over the years, Joseph purchased several hundred acres adjoin ing this property and by 1752 he owned at least 959 acres. In 1772, h e was commissioned to survey Dogue Creek Road, which indicates he had a knowledge of surveying. In 1774 Joseph and most of his family, toge ther with the Hall (his daughter's inlaws, Ann Cash Hall) and the Culv erhouse families (his wife's family, Elizabeth Bryant), moved to Dutc h District (later Dutchville), Granville County, North Carolina, wher e he and his son (Joseph, Jr.) and grandson (Joseph Cash Hall) were gr anted approximately 1000 acres along Picture Branch Creek. When Josep h died, his probated will (Aug 1780) listed the children named in thi s database, with the exception of William.
