Ada (Cash Matriach)
- Born: Abt 1133
- Marriage: Duncan in 1160 in Perth
- Died: Abt 1213 about age 80
General Notes:
Half-sister of Malcolm IV and the Cash Matriach.
Christmas, 1160: Christmas gathering at Perthshire. In (Refer to no tes for Malcolm IV) the gathering this night is Ada (the Cash matriac h), the King's half-sister, and Duncan, Earl of Fife. In the King's p ocket is a dowry grant for land -- a great deal of very good land -- s o what better time for the marriage than in this pleasant and convivia l atmosphere? On Christmas night of 1160, a radiant Ada and young Dun can, bearded and looking ten years older than his 23, dagger in belt w hich he did not remove either in the presence of Abbot or King, took t heir vows; and when it was over, Ada had become Countess de Fyfe. Th e King then presented the dowry grant. It was probably little largert han the copy shown in this book and differed from it only in a smallri bbon under a blob of pink wax, into which Malcolm had pressed his seal . Duncan or Ada probably had no idea of the actual extent of theselan ds. Malcolm had probably sworn the witnesses to strict secrecy until the Christmas gathering.
Falkland Forest, alone, was then 9,000 acres, heavily timbered and tee ming with game. Strathmiglo (valley of the Miglo River) Raithellet, K ings Fettle, and Strathbran (valley of the Bran River in Perthshire).W ith the exception of the forest of Falkland, the rest of the acreagewa s gently rolling wheat land.
When Ada's Arms were granted, we cannot be sure. Possibly at the wedd ing or perhaps shortly after: a shock of wheat portrayed the characte r of the lands, its base the Coronet, marking relationship to MalcolmI V. Duncan already bore the Arms of his ancestors, the rampant red lio n on a gold field.
From this alliance of Ada and Duncan, formed by marriage on Christmasn ight of 1160, has come a family surname - CASH - which by God's goodgr ace has endured over 800 years. _________________________________
For over 800 years, the parentage of Ada has been obscured.
Ada's Arms, granted her by Malcolm IV, King of Scots in 1160, were no t found in Scotland because they had been stolen by the soldiery of Ed ward of England. Edward simply wanted to make sure, when his time cam e to finally crush the stubborn Scots, that he would have a "blueprint " for the extermination of the nobles and their descendeants so many v ital records were stolen and shipped to England by Ship. However, Edw ard reckoned without Robert Bruce (The Bruce, King of Scotland)!
Ada married Duncan, son of Duncan and Hela, in 1160 in Perth. (Duncan was born about 1130 in Scotland and died in 1204 in Scotland.)
