Henderson H. Lilly; 2nd Corp/5th Sgt. Adam's Battery/Co A. 30th Batall ion VA Sharpshooters, Enlisted 6/22/61 at Raleigh Co., WVa Courthouse . Capt. Ft. Donelson 2/16/62. POW at Camp Douglas until exchanged at V icksburg by 9/2/62 as a 2nd Corp. Reported to Batallion from prison o n 10/17/62 and prom. to 5th Sgt. 9/1/62. Listed as deserted since 11/1 1/62. Returned by 12/31/62 and present until deserted 7/23/63. On Fede ral Roll of Rebel deserters taking the oath 10/11/63 sent to Ohio, ag e 24, 5'8, fair complexion, blue eyes, drk hair, residence, Raleigh Co ., WVa, farmer. Another record lists his residence at Hans Creek, Monr oe Co., WVa. Born 5/15/1839 Father Edmund, mother Elizabeth. Brother o f James, Allen and John A. Lilly. His wife was a cousin of George Houc hins. Listed on the 1860 Raleigh census as age 21, living with his mot her. Married Francis Katherine Harvey on 8/5/65 and had at least 4 chi ldren. Moved to Middletown, Henry Co., Indiana at the close of the wa r or after talking oath. Attended the 1938 celebration at Gettsyburg.T he oldest living soldier there at age 98. Died 10/10/1940 at age 101.

Henderson was in the same Batallion as my 3rd great Grandfather John W esley Dunbar, who had come to Henry Co,Indiana shortly before Henderso n.
My mother knew Henderson, they were 2nd cousins, she attended his 100t h birthday party when she was 14 years old. She called him "Unc" Hende rson.

Henderson married Francis Katherine Harvey on Aug 8, 1865 in West Virginia. (Francis Katherine Harvey was born in Nov 1842 in Indiana.)
