Mercer Co., W.VA, 1837-1985, Mercer County HistoricalSoc iety, Princeton, W.VA, Flat Top organized first church in county. Jul y 27, 1840 (?) Camp Creek Church. Schools: 1850, about 578 people out of 4,000 could read or write. 20 subscription schools with 400 student s. pg. 41, some nearly former Mercer County Schools; Jumping Branch, B arn, Camp Creek, Dunns, Flat Top, Brammer, Maxey, Ellison, Fairview, P iney Flat and Ferguson.
