William Chenoweth 8

members of this family removed early to Berkeley Co., VA and vicinity ; some later to KY and to Pike Co., OH and Pike Co., IL. Major Willia m Chenoweth was at the Falls (Louisville) in 1779. It was he who marr ied the widow Hinton. Their son, Jacob Chenoweth, married a sister o f Hon Samuel Haycraft, State senator of Kentucky.
A Chenoweth family was massacred by Indians in the early days in Kentu cky. Draper collected much information on this incident to be used i n his Border Series. Much additional information on Chenoweths mightb e had by consultation with his MSS.
William married Mary Van Meter, daughter of Jacob Van Meter and Letitia Strode.
