At the time of the crowning of Robert Bruce as King of Scots in 1306,t he young Earl of Fife was in England. Isabel rode to Scone, crownedBr uce and led him to the inaugural seat, exercising the perogative ofth e Fife Earls that had been granted the first Earl by Malcolm I. Somet ime later she was captured by English soldiery and King Edward of Engl and condemned her to an open cage attached to the outside of Berwick C astle and open to public view. Here she spent four years. She istypi cal of many courageous Scotswomen of those time.
