The family emigrated from Sweden to Chicago, Illinois (USA) in the ear ly 1870s. They went to Bishop Hill, IL and then migrated to Kansas . A family book is written for the Parrish of Alfta. Swedish backgr ound information on names, areas, etc. were provided by Sven-Erik Sund qvist of Bollnas, Sweden, Chairman of the Bollnas Genealogical Society .
The first occurrence we see of the name ENGLUND being used is with Olo f's father (Hans Jonsson-Englund). It appears that Olof's son, Henry( Hans), may have adopted the American method of family naming by shorte ning the name to Englund, which was used by his wife and all of their children.
The first published item on Olof that I found appears in the Wayne Reg ister of 11 July 1885. "Mr. O. Englund, another of our energetic farm ers, brought us a sample of his new crop of Timothy and clover. It wa s sown in the early part of March. The timothy is now waist high andt he clover about 12 to 14 inches, and a thick heavy growth of both. Ano ther evidence that Kansas soil is rich and strong. Next season, Mr.En glund will have an abundance of hay and tame grass pastures." (KS H istorical Society, Kansas Collection, Microfilm W 2704)
Wayne Register, 29 Sept 1887: We learn that Mr. Olof England has boug ht Mr. Nyberger's farm, southwest of town. Consideration: $1500. ( KS Historical Society, Kansas Collection, Microfilm W 2704)
Wayne Journal, 28 Jan 1910: Olof and Henry Englund bought a manure sp reader of Riepen & Son this week. They are doing the right thing at t he right time. (KS Historical Society, Kansas Collection, Microfil m W 2704)
