John Stewart
- Born: 1340
- Marriage: Unknown
General Notes:
King of Scotland, 1390-1406. He choose to rule under the name of Robe rt III rather than John. He was 50, in frail health and crippled by t he kick of a horse in his youth. He entrusted much of the governmentt o his brother, Robert Stewart, which proved an unwise decision.
In 1398, Robert III created his eldest son, David (age 21) Duke of Rot hesay and names his brother, Robert Stewart, as Duke of Albany. Thisw as the first creation of "Dukes" in Scotland. The ambition of Rothesa y and the jealousy of Albany resulted in Rothesay's death at Falkland castle, which Albany then occupied. It was said Rothesay died of dyse ntary, but the circumstances were suspicious and he was quickly andsec retly buried.
John married.
